I missed the leaves!

7 December, 2009 at 20:16
I missed the leaves! In my mind I know what my life is supposed to look like, it’s really beautiful. My children are laughing and smiling, they are wrapped up all warm with cute hats, scarves and mits. We are skipping through a wood and the sight of the autumnal leaves is breath taking! The reality is never quite so pretty. For the last 4 weeks my children have taken it in turns to be poorly and walks in the country haven’t happened. Then it was my turn and the winter cold took hold and sitting on the settee wishing I had more energy was about all I could do. The kids have argued, the grownups have lost their patience and sense of humour. We’ve all felt trapped by the four walls and when I have attempted to get out the door, I can’t even find any hats (they’ll be in a bag at the back of a very awful cupboard) and I have put socks on their hands (and don’t think for a minute that they match...don’t get me started!) 10 out of 10 for survival techniques, 1 out of 10 for good Mother award. So, finally when we do get to the woods - the trees are bare. My expectations of breathing in the beauty of the English countryside in Autumn are gone...along with the leaves! Bollocks......ok, so my children are feeling better, I am feeling better. I came across a picture made of orange and red leaves that the kids have done and the pushchair bag thing is full of leaves. So in fact of course we did have some walks this Autumn. I will go to the shop soon and buy gloves and hats and that will be us sorted for the weather and I’ve even got a new kids coat rack so I can at least try to control the chaos! And yes the trees in Autumn are fantastic but hey there will soon be snow....what fun! In reflection, I almost got caught in the trap, I wanted to feel sorry for myself and was determined to look at the dark side. But no, I will not, who gains from that? It was only a moment, it passed! Sometimes these things seem hard until you’ve sorted it out in your mind.
